A Lifelong Passion for Theatre and the Performing Arts

I have always loved the theatre and started performing at a local dance school when I was just 3 years old. My passion for dance and drama continued to grow as I became a member of the Everyman Youth Theatre and a regular competitor at the Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival.

Founded by Laura Bishop, Ovation Theatre Club was established to share the joy of drama and performance in primary schools within the local area and increase confidence in young people.

Laura has a BA (Hons) degree in Performing Arts, a PGCE in primary education and Grade 8 acting qualification from LAMDA and brings extensive experience to Ovation Theatre Club.

Today, I am an active member of CODS and have performed, choreographed and directed in a variety of shows. I have always loved the theatre and started dancing and performing when I was just 3 years old. My passion for dance and drama continued to grow as I became a member of the Everyman Youth Theatre and a regular competitor at the Cheltenham Performing Arts Festival.

As an experienced teacher I recognise the benefits of performing arts and have seen first hand how drama can build confidence and develop creativity.  I look forward to sharing my love of the arts and the joy it brings to all involved.

The Value of Performing Arts

Performing Arts—whether it’s theatre, dance, music or even the spoken word—play a crucial role in the educational experience. While traditional subjects like Maths, English and Science are essential, performing arts offer unique benefits that are just as important for a child’s overall growth. The arts matter, they;

Foster Creativity and Innovation - The performing arts encourage students to think outside the box, develop unique perspectives and embrace creative expression.

Build Confidence and Public Speaking Skills - Standing on stage and performing in front of an audience can be intimidating, but it's also an incredible confidence booster.

Teach Teamwork and Collaboration - Performing arts are rarely a solo endeavour. Whether in a choir, a dance ensemble or a theatre production, students must work together, support one another and share responsibilities.

Encourage Discipline and Perseverance - Creating a polished performance requires hard work, dedication and perseverance. Students in the arts learn how to manage their time, practice diligently and push through challenges to achieve their goals.

The performing arts are not just an extracurricular activity—they are an essential part of a well-rounded education. They offer a platform for self-expression, foster personal growth, and prepare students for life beyond the classroom. By valuing and supporting the performing arts in schools, we give students the opportunity to discover their voices, build confidence and develop skills that will benefit them for years to come. So, the next time you see a performance—whether it’s a play, concert or musical—remember that it’s not just entertainment, it’s an important part of a student's educational journey.
